I’M BREAKING UP WITH WORKING OUT + WHAT I’M DOING INSTEAD

Yep, you heard me. I’m giving it up. Maybe for ever, maybe just for right now. Either way, me and working out? We’re taking an indefinite break.

Let me get one thing clear, we were never really committed in the first place. I think it was that kind of situation where I liked the idea of working out, but anytime we hung out I just couldn’t get into it.

Working out was always one of those things where I really felt like I should do it. I haven’t really struggled with weight problems, but I have struggled with keeping myself healthy. Working out is a staple for healthy living and yoga was my ideal way to get there. Don’t get me wrong, I can get into some Yoga With Adrian  every once in a while. She is amazing and I feel like we’re friends just from the way she acts on her videos. Working out in anyway though, it’s just not for me.

After a little self reflection and a long mental back and forth on how I really envision my future, I officially decided, it’s time to let it go.

So here I am saying, “Dear Working Out, It’s not me. It’s you.”

I’m not gonna lie. It’s a little intimidating walking away. Working out is suppose to be good for you and people who find a way to love it really do seem happier. I’m just not the type of person that gets that joy. I could try and force it, but life’s too short to learn to love things you just don’t like.

If you’re anything like me, I want to share some things you can add to your life so you don’t have to feel so guilty about letting go of working out.

WHAT TO DO WHEN IT’S NOT WORKING OUT WITH WORKING OUT

START YOUR DAY WITH STRETCHING

Stretching is a really great way to get your blood flowing and to loosen up in the morning. Never underestimate the strain that’s put on your body from even just a normal day. Whether you’re chasing kids around or sitting at a desk, your body is effected. Give it a little love and stretch in the morning. Maybe even add in a little afternoon stretch in. It’s a nice reset for your joints and can get your body back in that sit up straight, feel good, ready for the day position.

DRINK MORE WATER

Hydrating not only keeps you energized but it can also stop unnecessary cravings that lead you to unhealthy snacks. You can even find ways to make water a little more fun by adding different fruit to it everyday. Then, you’ll not only feel physically good, but you’ll feel fancy which will make you happy!

SPEND MORE TIME OUTSIDE

Even if you’re just sitting around in the sun, there’s something to be said for the outdoors. Breathing in the fresh air and getting out of a stuffy house always does some good. I love to sit outside and journal or just look up at the sky. It can really put you in the moment and remind you to love the little things.

IMPROVE YOUR DIET

This can seriously do wonders on your mental and physical health. I gave Whole30 a try and I discovered that not only did it help me with weight control after Oliver was born, but it also made me feel incredible. That clear headed feeling people love after good work out is the same one you can have if you tweak your diet to be healthier. The best part? You don’t even have to leave the couch!

If you have trouble getting started, Whole30 or a Juice Cleanse are great ways to help get control of the cravings and give your self a reset without making a commitment.

DO MORE OF WHAT YOU LOVE

Don’t fill your life with obligations you hate. The most draining thing is spending time doing stuff you don’t feel like doing. Of course there are things you just have to do, but really take time to decided what is necessary and what can be cut. Minimizing your obligations and replacing them with things you really love can give you a huge mood boost. The bonus is, when you’re doing more of what you love, you’re spending less time trying to cope with things that are bad for you.

So don’t replace working out with another thing you hate. Just keep letting go of more and more not so fun things so you can fill your time with what you really love!
